As one of the largest colleges in the country, Kirklees offers a wide range of courses and study options. As a leading education provider in West Yorkshire, it needed a cost-effective system which would serve a variety of functions within the Drama Department.
Full-time Drama Teacher, Maureen, says: “We use the system at every level from level 2 to degree level and, although it is still new to us, it is already very popular because it is so easy to learn and easy to use.”
The core reasons for choosing an OpusSystem were around assessment and the difference it could make to the quality of drama productions. However, the College also quickly discovered that its flexibility meant it also made a difference to many other activities – from rehearsals to script production. Maureen comments: “We chose the system because of its adaptability for assessment and in rehearsals, where students are able to provide their own input with different colours, different lighting, enhancing their work in a range of creative ways. We just used it this week for a whole two-hour show and every single student has been assessed within the challenging time-frame.”
OpusSystem provides the opportunity for drama students to get first-hand experience of a user-friendly system. Peter, the Technician, who has worked at the college for over 20 years, adds: “Anybody who wanted to go into technical theatre would have a flying start because the equipment is so cutting edge. We have had no issues with it and, even when we’ve had the occasional question, the OpusCare team has been very prompt and efficient.”
In a vibrant and busy Drama Department the OpusSystem plays a core role in our courses. Technically, its accessibility and ease of use for students and teachers is a defining feature.
Maureen concludes: “We looked carefully at some other systems but homed in on this one because it also lends itself best to the technical courses we are hoping to run in the future. It provides a comprehensive, whole package – a great advantage over other fragmented options we have looked at. It is just so easy for anyone to pick up the basics of functionality. It really ‘hits the nail on the head’!”
